Megan paints new future with apprenticeship success

Megan Ribbon, a Level 2 painting and decorating student from Tameside College has successfully secured an apprenticeship with SD Painting Contractors Ltd.
Megan, who is from Manchester and a former Wright Robinson High School student, has progressed from Level 1 painting and decorating to securing an apprenticeship with a well-respected painting and decorating firm that boasts over 10 years’ experience in supplying commercial, domestic and specialist painter and decorator services. She joins a team of over 20 professional painters and decorators at the firm and is currently enjoying work on new builds, plastering and laying undercoats on the interior walls.
Megan, said: “I’m really enjoying my new job and having fun on our different projects. I want to set an example for women in this industry by showing them the potential careers you can have in construction and not being afraid to go for what you really want. In the future I’d like to progress into management or potentially run my own painting and decorating business. The apprenticeship has allowed me financial freedom whilst still working towards a qualification so I would definitely recommend it to other students looking to find a way to get into the industry.”
Adam Johnson, Megan’s teacher at Tameside College, said: “Ever since Megan came to see me to enrol on the level 1 painting and decorating course, I knew she would have the drive and ambition to achieve her qualification. She has always been a model student, so when I was asked to recommend one of my students for an apprenticeship there was no hesitation in recommending Megan. SD Painting Contractors Ltd were very impressed with her positive attitude and the fact she proactively obtained her own Construction Skills Certification Scheme card so she was qualified to go onsite straight away. I am extremely proud now she has gained employment and always knew she would achieve her ambition of becoming a professional painter and decorator.”
