Harrison builds new future after apprenticeship success

Harrison Turner, a former Tameside College apprentice from Glossop, has recently been promoted to site manager in training with his current company, Willmott Dixon, after successfully completing an apprenticeship with Apple Display and Shopfitting Ltd.

Harrison first came to Tameside College with an interest in construction and after taking taster sessions decided that a career in joinery was what he would enjoy most and would give him great career prospects.

Harrison, said: “I’ve got really high aspirations thanks to my teachers at Tameside College. Carl Shaw made us want to do our best and learn new skills so we could make the best possible lives for ourselves.”

After finishing his level 3 bench joinery apprenticeship, Harrison was encouraged to progress onto the college’s HNC construction course to help him get into university. After successfully finishing his HNC, Harrison went onto study a degree in construction and project management at the University of Salford alongside his new full-time role at Willmott Dixon.

John Morewood, operations manager at Willmott Dixon and Harrison’s line manager, said: “As his mentor and line manager I am delighted to report that Harrison has settled well within the role and has integrated himself well on site to become a well-respected and trusted member of the site team. He carries out his daily duties with confidence and enthusiasm and if he continues with this rate of progress I see no reason why he will not be successful in his career and go on to become a respected construction professional in whatever discipline he eventually chooses.”

Harrison, said: “I’m loving my new role at Willmott Dixon. They have supported me throughout my studies and are a great company to work for. I’m looking forward to finishing university in May and applying my qualifications in my new role.”
