College helps school students build careers

Tameside College is helping to build the future generation of skills in carpentry and joinery, brickwork and painting and decorating with their new ‘Construction Club’.

Students from St Thomas Moore High School have joined the club and completed their first session in the painting and decorating department this week. The club is aimed at encouraging more school students to think about careers in the construction industry.

Adam Johnson, painting and decorating teacher at Tameside College, said: “It’s always good to give people the skills they need in life so that is why the Construction Club works so well. I hope that over the next couple of weeks, the students will learn a lot and eventually choose to come to the college to learn even more about the industry. It’s a very exciting project that I’m happy to be a part of.”

Matthew Dunne, St Thomas Moore High School student, said: “I eventually want to go into construction like some of my family members so the Construction Club is very interesting to me. I am very excited to visit each of the departments to see what they have to offer. Hopefully it will be as fun as the Paint Department has been”.
