College goes ‘high-tech’ with paint refinishing

The paint refinishing department at Tameside College has received a high-tech piece of machinery from industry experts Static Solutions Ltd.

The laser guided anti-static gun, which is worth £2,500 was given to the college on a loan for life basis. The ‘stat-gun’ is a piece of equipment which uses the latest technology to eliminate paint defects caused by static attraction, such as dirt and dust in final paintwork finishes.

Sales executive for Static Solutions, Steede Charlton, visited the college to donate the equipment and to train the students in its proper use, which will allow the students to work to industry standard levels.

Each student used the ‘stat-gun’ on a vehicle panel and was coached by Steede on how to get the best finish possible.

Steede said: "It is a great opportunity for our company to donate this industry leading equipment to the college as it provides a tool for the students to use in the workshop that is absolutely brand new and allows them to train to a super high standard. We are pleased to be able to help the industry leaders of the future grow and learn.”

Shaheen Ahmed, level 2 paint refinishing student, said:  "Using the new Stat gun on my projects is going to cut my work time down to near industry standards. I’m very excited to go into the world of work knowing that I can already use technology most students can’t.”
