Students get taste of life in the marines

The Royal Marines visibility team visited Tameside College to give public services students a taste of life as a commando within the Royal Navy’s elite infantry unit.
The soldiers delivered a presentation about life in the Royal Marines and its benefits. The students then took part in a grueling training session at Stamford Park to show the level of fitness marines have to keep.
The visibility team were impressed with the student’s efforts and have offered the college places on their next Royal Marines ‘look at life’ programme which gives young people the opportunity to visit their Lympstone training camp in Devon.
Andrew Dixon, public services teacher at Tameside College, said: “The Royal Marines are one of the most elite fighting forces in the British armed forces, if not the world, so to have them come to the college and work with our students is excellent. They thoroughly enjoyed it and one or two of our students are very keen to join the Royal Marines when they leave the college.”
Josh Crosby, former Copley Academy and public services student at Tameside College, said: “I am really considering joining the Royal Marines later in life. I have always been interested in joining the armed forces but the session with the commandos has really given me focus to what I want to do. It was really good fun!”
