School celebrates ‘green’ partnership with college

Jackie Moores, principal of Tameside College, presented certificates to year ten pupils who took part in this year’s Greenpower project earlier this week.

The pupils spent two days working with motor vehicle teachers from the college building an electric powered go-kart to race at Aintree Racecourse alongside other schools and organisations.

This is the second year the college has been involved in the Greenpower project, which is a national initiative to develop young engineers.

Jackie Moores, Principal of Tameside College, said: “It was fantastic to meet the students that took part in the project. They are really enthusiastic about it and I hope they enjoyed it. There are big skills shortages in the engineering sector at the moment, especially for females and it would be fantastic if some of these students go on to become engineers after being inspired by Greenpower.”

She continued: “We were amazed at how quickly they accepted the challenge. As well as learning engineering concepts the pupils worked in teams to solve problems. We’re really pleased with how they performed.”
