Food student heads for London after big break

Teisha Baker, hospitality supervision student at Tameside College is celebrating after being offered a position at the restaurant of Channel Four’s First Dates star, Fred Siriex.

Galvin at Windows in London, which is managed by Fred and has a Michelin star, will employ Teisha as a waiter after she completed work experience there earlier in the year.

During her work experience Teisha, a former Werneth School pupil, worked as a ‘runner’ taking food to and from the kitchen and making sure guests were satisfied with their service. Staff recognised her skills and after completing the work experience, she has now been given the opportunity as a full time member of staff.

Teisha, said: “My work experience with Galvin’s was amazing and one of the best things I’ve ever done. Everyone who works there is so friendly and made me feel right at home. I am quite proud of myself for being taken on by them and can’t really believe it’s happening, but I wouldn’t have been able to do it without John my teacher.”

John Holden, hospitality and catering teacher at Tameside College, said: “We’re all very proud of Teisha in the food department. Galvin’s is one of the best restaurants in London if not the UK, so to get a job there you have to have a talent. Teisha will go on to do amazing things and I wish her the very best. She is just one of many students who have achieved great success after leaving the college.”
