Commando training no match for students

Public services students at Tameside College became Royal Marines for the week recently, after taking part in a taster course at Lympstone Commando Training Centre in Devon.
Nine students from the college visited the centre to take part in the Royal Marines’ ‘look at life’ course, which gives students and young people an idea of what it is like to be part of the elite force.
Over the course of their stay, the students took part in a range of activities with the help of instructors. The first activity, which was an endurance course designed to test potential recruits’ physical and mental strength, included an underwater tunnel swim, two mile cross country run and belly crawl.
The students also took part in an assault course, gym test and swim test, which is a crucial part of life in the Royal Marines.
Ben Lawton, public services student at Tameside College who took part in the course, said: “The week was great fun. It has been really hard work and tough but it’s given me a really good idea of what it’s like to be a commando and a gauge of my fitness level. I will definitely be pushing my application to join the Royal Marines after this.”
