Employers see the benefits of new apprenticeship

Employers from across Greater Manchester visited Tameside College’s Advanced Technologies Centre on Friday 22nd June to learn more about their new engineering apprenticeships.
Peter Redfern, curriculum leader for engineering and Kathryn Jenkins, assessor in engineering, introduced the brand new, four year apprenticeship to local businesses in the manufacturing and engineering sector with a presentation and tour of the college’s state-of-the-art facilities.
The new apprenticeship framework will mean that apprentices will spend one year on a full time placement at Tameside College, learning the basics of the engineering trade and then do a further three year placement working with their chosen employer.
Peter, said: “The aim of this new apprenticeship is to give those on the course the chance to gain essential skills that will stay with them throughout their career before they go into employment, meaning when they do go to work they know exactly what to do, how to do it and are already experienced engineers.”
