More than just a Course

The Animation and Game Design course offers a professional learning environment, industry experienced teachers and award winning provision with a proven track record in industry and higher education.

On the course you will learn the fundamental knowledge and specialist skills for Animation and Game Design such as concept art, character design, 3D modelling, 2D and 3D Animation, gameplay scripting, programming (Python and C#), traditional art techniques (drawing, mark making and texture design), software skills (Unity, Adobe After Effects and Photoshop, Autodesk Maya and Mudbox). You will develop your skills through undertaking a broad range of projects which will include game design, app development and character animation. You will be working with high specification resources and will have access to industry standard equipment in our fully equipped Apple Mac suite.

Following successful completion of this course you will receive an Extended Diploma, this is equivalent to 3 full A-Levels.

Course Format

Special Features

Students are expected to have a basic art kit which includes pencils, eraser, sharpener, fineliner, coloured pencils and/or markers, glue stick, a USB memory stick and/or cloud storage. Some students will also choose to buy a Wacom drawing tablet.

Entry Qualifications

Learners must have;

4 GCSE’s grade C or above (including English or Maths)

A demonstrable interest in Animation or Game Design or a GCSE in a creative subject or Computer Science.

Successful interview with an Animation tutor (bring a portfolio of your Animation or Game Design work)

Good verbal and written communication

Good drawing skills or programming knowledge are a bonus

Progression

Direct access to employment within the creative art and design industries
