You will work on a range of design projects including illustration, logo design and branding, promotion, album artwork, website and app design, magazine spreads and animations. Competitions and live briefs are often used to give you a genuine experience of professional design practice.
Outside of your lessons there are opportunities to continue to achieve and succeed by taking advantage of the creative facilities at the college. We have a large library with a huge selection of art and design books, MacBooks and cameras are available for loan as well as a photography studio and the opportunity for collaborative work with students from other art and design courses.
Following successful completion of this 2 year course you will receive an Extended Diploma in Graphic Design. This is equivalent to 3 full A-Levels and carries between 48 and 168 UCAS points. The course is also recognised by employers and apprenticeship schemes.
More than just a Course
The Graphic Design BTEC course aims to provide you with the vital skills and techniques required for a career in Graphic Design and goes into more detail compared to the A-Level course. You will cover specialist skills such as the creative process, research, analysis, ideas generation, typography, traditional skills (drawing, papercraft, print making, etc), digital skills (Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, etc) plus photography, presentation and communication.
You will be working within a professional design studio atmosphere with access to Apple hardware and Adobe Creative Cloud software. You will be supported by dedicated subject specialist teaching staff with industry experience and encouraged to develop all-round skills to fulfil your own creative potential.
Grade C or above in an art or design subject and a portfolio of creative work.
On completing your course you will have the option of furthering your education through degree programmes in a related field, starting a creative apprenticeship or moving on to employment within the creative industries. Professions and routes include: Graphic designer, illustration and animation, advertising and marketing, web and app design, branding and packaging. This course also links to photography, multimedia work and UX/UI.
