The course includes a variety of practical and theory classes alongside commercial salon sessions on live, paying clients. You will take part in trips, visits, seminars and competitions alongside your lessons to ensure you further develop a good understanding of the industry.
Learners are expected to undertake work experience in a salon setting. Gaining part time employment in a salon will greatly enhance your skills and aid employability and progression opportunities.
An Individual Learning Plan (ILP) will be designed with you, to meet your needs. Targets will be set to enable your progress and achievement.
You will be assigned a Personal Tutor who specifically looks after your pastoral and progress requirements throughout the course
Mathematics & English classes are mandatory and a core part of your study programme, if you are aged 16-18 and do not have a Grade C or Grade 4 in mathematics and English
You will be trained in the use of specialist, professional products and treatments such as Dermalogica.
The course covers the following units:
Manicure and Pedicure
Facial treatments including Lash and Brow
Health and Safety.
There are many additional opportunities as part of this study programme. You will be expected to take part in work experience, and also have the opportunity to represent the college as you enter a range of regional and national competitions, such as Greater Manchester Colleges’ Competitions. During your time on this programme, you will also take part in external study visits, for example to Professional Beauty North, to observe professionals within the industry and taking part in bespoke one day demonstrations on the latest trends and fashions in the industry.
This course is assessed through a mixture of practical assessments, written tests and exams.
You will also complete 36 hours of work experience in industry as part of your course
More than just a Course
Hairdressing & Beauty Therapy offers an exciting and challenging career in a fast paced industry. This course will develop your core employability skills such as communication and retail alongside practical hair and beauty skills. It will give you the knowledge and practical skills to progress to a course at level 2 in Hairdressing, Beauty Therapy, Media Hairdressing & Make Up or Nails. Alternatively you could progress to an Apprenticeship.
If you are interested in a career in Hairdressing and Beauty Therapy, Tameside College offers a wide range of courses to get you started in a rewarding career in these areas. This course will give you the knowledge and skills to progress within the sector and enable you to move into industry.
