You will be assigned a Personal Tutor and a Progress Tutor who will specifically look after your pastoral and course requirements
You will be assessed through a variety of assessment methods including discussions, displays, case studies, presentations, written work and practical assessments whilst on placement
You will undertake weekly work experience as a Health and Social Care Cadet. This includes the opportunity to undertake NHS placements on a variety of wards at Tameside General Hospital and specialist placements in sector specific areas e.g. mental health and sexual health.
You will gain sector specific knowledge and experience from guest speakers and educational visits
Throughout the course you will develop a range of skills and knowledge preparing you for progression into employment within the Health and Social Care sector or onto a related Level 3 course within the college.

If you are interested in making a difference to people’s lives by choosing a rewarding career in Health and Social Care then this is the course for you. Health and Social Care dominates our lives. You could be looking to work with older people, young people, people with learning disabilities or within the NHS, and this qualification could be the first step on that exciting journey. Health and Social Care courses provide broad based learning around the physical, intellectual, emotional and social needs of individuals of all ages preparing you for a variety of career pathways including nursing, midwifery, social work and youth work. This practical and academic qualification will give you the knowledge and skills to move forward towards your goal.
This is a full time programme. In terms of assessment, you will sit an exam for 2 of the 10 units and the remaining 8 will be assessed internally using a variety of assessment methods. You will learn through a variety of methods which will aim to meet the needs of each individual and accommodate different learning styles for example, case studies, assessments, group work, practical work, projects and interactive activities.
Alongside your core Health and Social Care studies you will study GCSE Maths and/or English (if not already achieved at L2)
So that you can attend your weekly placement you will undergo and acquire an enhanced DBS check
You are required to have at least 4 GCSEs at grade D, preferably including English and Maths. You will also be required to undertake an interview and will be expected to be enthusiastic about working in the health and social care sector.
