Level 1 Diploma in Brickwork

Course Content

The course is designed for learners who wish to gain a hands-on appreciation of Core Craft and associated fields of study surrounding Sustainable Building, Social Issues and Entrepreneurial Skills. You will acquire the introductory knowledge and skills relevant to the construction industry in the above disciplines whilst working in a supportive environment.

Students learn through a combination of practice workshops; classroom sessions; individual guided learning and support; and independent study. The emphasis is on the core and associated skill requirements where competency will be assessed to occupational standards and knowledge tested. The tutors provide ongoing feedback. All learners will sit a final test to pass the course either on-line or written dependant on awarding body requirements.

Special Features

The course offers students an opportunity to develop hands on practical skills in a real working environment. The course consists of units that include: an introduction to the industry; estimating; methods of working; building design; and construction. Functional Skills are also included in English, Information Technology and Mathematics.

In addition to the core elements a programme of tutorials and enrichment activities and topics are provided.

Entry Qualifications

Qualification requirements are 4 GCSEs at grade D-G including Maths, English and Science or Technology.

Progression

Successful completion of the course will lead to further vocational training and learning, progressing to either Level 2 Diploma (Intermediate) Level 3 Diploma (Advanced) or the opportunity to take advantage of the General Construction Operative level 2 course offering training in the broader aspects of construction such as Drainage systems, and Concreting units adding to your future employment skills bank which can be NVQ if you are in an apprenticeship or [in-house College-based] or Levels 2-3 NVQ work-based/Modern Apprenticeships, again, via employment.

Note: The relevant Skill for Life/Functional Skills and Qualifications must be gained to qualify for progression
