Level 3 Extended Diploma in Health and Social Care

Your Unique Experience

You will be assigned a Personal Tutor and a Progress Tutor who will specifically look after your pastoral and course requirements

You will be assessed through a variety of assessment methods including discussions, displays, case studies, presentations, written work and practical assessments whilst on placement

You will undertake weekly work experience as a Health and Social Care Cadet. This includes the opportunity to undertake NHS placements on a variety of wards at Tameside General Hospital and specialist placements in sector specific areas e.g. mental health and sexual health.

You will gain sector specific knowledge and experience from guest speakers and educational visits

Course Content

Throughout the course you will develop a range of skills and knowledge preparing you for progression either into employment within the Health and Social Care sector onto continue your studies in Yr2 of the L3 Extended Diploma in Health & Social Care.

Throughout the one-year course you will study a broad range of Health and Social Care related units such as:

Anatomy and Physiology

Caring for Children and Young People

Safeguarding Adults and Promoting Independence

More than just a Course

If you are interested in making a difference to people’s lives by choosing a rewarding career in Health and Social Care then this is the course for you. Health and Social Care dominates our lives. You could be looking to work with older people, young people, people with learning disabilities or within the NHS and this qualification could be the first step on that exciting journey. Health and Social Care courses provide broad based learning around the physical, intellectual, emotional and social needs of individuals of all ages preparing you for a variety of career pathways. This qualification prepares you specifically for careers in care such as auxiliary nursing, a care worker, a support worker and counselling. This practical and academic qualification will give you the knowledge and skills to move forward towards your goal by equipping you to progress to employment or continue your studies in Yr2 of the L3 Extended Diploma in Health and Social Care. The L3 90-Credit Diploma is equivalent to one A Level and carries up to 84 UCAS points.

Course Format

This is a full time programme. You will learn through a variety of methods which will aim to meet the needs of each individual and accommodate different learning styles for example, case studies, assessments, group work, practical work, projects and interactive activities. Assessment will take place internally and again, a variety of methods will be used.

Special Features

Alongside your core Health and Social Care studies you will study GCSE Maths and/or English (if not already achieved at L2)

So that you can attend your weekly placement you will undergo and acquire an enhanced DBS check

Entry Qualifications

You are required to have 5 GCSEs at grade A*-C including English and Science (preferable) and a minimum of grade D in Maths. You will also be required to undertake an interview and will be expected to be enthusiastic about working in the health and social care sector.

You may also progress from the BTEC L2 Extended Certificate in Health and Social Care (with the required overall grade and the required English and Maths grades)

On successful completion of this qualification you can progress onto:

Yr2 of the L3 Extended Diploma in Health and Social Care

Employment within the Health & Social Care sector

An Advanced Apprenticeship
