Level 1 Award in Cake Decoration

On this course you will learn the professional standards for Cake Decoration. Covering all aspects of royal icing work including coating to a professional standard, piping shells, ropes, scrolls, flowers and lettering so that you can write freehand onto cakes and various design elements.

Additionally you will learn sugar paste and modelling skills including coating of cakes round and square, crimping and embossing, simple marzipan shapes and models, sugar paste cut-outs incorporating simple piped decorations and lettering.

Cake Decoration is very creative, you will amaze your family, friends and customers with the skills you will learn from Cupcakes to Wedding Cakes. Your skills will be endless.

The programme will focus on giving you the skills to decorate a full range of products suitable for every occasion. Starting with the basic skills you will learn how to professionally design, decorate and develop your skills in Cake Decoration.

Part Time - Evenings

Training is carried out by specialist staff and your work will be at a recognised national standard.

No formal requirements but a genuine interest in professional cake decoration and attendance of a briefing session held prior to enrolment. When you have completed the Cake Decoration Award Level 1 you could progress onto the Level 2.

All learners of this programme require own specialist equipment. These include:

Small palette knife

Side scraper

No. 2 crimper

Straight edge

No. 1, 2, 3, 4 piping tubes

Metal flower nail

After successful completion of Level 1, you have a number of options available to you, these include-

Cake Decoration Certificate Level 2

Finisher/Cake Decorator (Bakery Trade)

Advanced Sugar Craft Flowers

Various bakery courses including chocolate skills

If you are aged between 19-23 and don’t already hold a qualification equivalent to 5 GCSEs at grade C or above, and you need to study at Entry or Level 1 to progress to Level 2, tuition fees will be waived.
