Course Content

The CIPD Level 5 Intermediate Certificate in HR Management provides the perfect platform to further develop your HR career at management level. It will help you develop your ability to evaluate the effectiveness of different HR models and practices, and will increase your understanding of external factors that impact on HR and organisations. Whilst building expertise in HR specialist subjects, you will also develop your planning, analytical and problem solving skills.

This qualification is suitable for you if you are currently working in the field of HR Management and wish to extend your knowledge and skills in order to develop your career. You may also be looking to work towards a professional level of membership to gain credibility and recognition. The ideal candidate will typically have responsibility for implementing HR policies and strategies and have a need to become more business savvy in developing organisational insight into the wider business context and environment.

The course covers the following units:

Developing Professional Practice (5DVP)

Business Issues and the Contexts of Human Resources (5CHR)

Using Information in Human Resources (5UIN)

Improving Organisational Performance (5IVP)

Employee Engagement (5ENG)

Developing Leadership and Management Skills (5LMS)

The qualification comprises of both mandatory and optional units and will be assessed by work-based assignments.

*Important: Students are also required to arrange registration with the CIPD which costs approximately £40 joining fee plus £92 student membership fee (this is mandatory and must be paid to CIPD). This can be arranged after enrolment.

Entry Qualifications

Candidates must hold the CIPD Certificate in HR Practice – Level 3. Candidates with experience and/or other suitable qualifications will be considered. Prior to enrolment, you will have to attend an interview with the course tutor to ensure suitability. Candidates are required to have a good command of English and ICT skills.


Following successful completion of the course, it may lead to a place on the Post Graduate Diploma in Human Resource Management through our close links with either the University of Huddersfield or the University of Salford; and be able to progress further to either an MA or MSc in Human Resource Management.
