The course includes a variety of practical and theory classes. You will take part in trips, visits, seminars and competitions alongside your lessons to ensure you develop a good understanding of the industry.
Learners are expected to undertake work experience in a salon setting. Gaining part time employment in a salon will greatly enhance your skills and aid employability and progression opportunities.
An Individual Learning Plan (ILP) will be designed with you, to meet your needs and targets will be set to enable your progress and achievement.
You will be assigned a Personal Tutor and a Progress Tutor who specifically look after your pastoral and progress requirements throughout the course
Mathematics & English classes are mandatory and a core part of your study programme, if you are aged 16-18 and do not have a Grade C or Grade 4 in mathematics and English
The course covers the following units:
Follow health and safety practice in the salon
Shampoo and condition the hair and scalp
Plaiting and twisting
Skincare, make-up and nail treatments
There are many additional opportunities as part of this study programme. You will be expected to take part in work experience, and also have the opportunity to enter a range of regional and national competitions, such as Greater Manchester Colleges’ Competition. During your time on this programme, you will also take part in external study visits, for example to The Wella Studios in Manchester to observe industry specialists taking part in bespoke one day demonstrations on the latest trends and fashions in the industry. This course is assessed through a mixture of practical assessments and written tests.
More than just a Course
Hairdressing & Beauty Therapy offers an exciting and challenging career in a fast paced industry. This course will develop your core employability skills such as communication and retail alongside practical hair and beauty skills. It will give you the knowledge and skills to progress to a course at level 1 in Hairdressing, Beauty Therapy or Media Hair & Make Up. Alternatively you could progress to an Apprenticeship.
