You will learn to weld to the specified standards using latest equipment and have an understanding of the different techniques used to achieve them.

Course Content

The unit is designed to enable candidates to demonstrate welding skills typically found in industry and associated underpinning knowledge to a level that will enable them to complete welded joints in standard welding positions and prepare them for undertaking qualifications at NVQ level 2 and at level 3.

For each qualification candidates will be required to complete the following 5 practical assessments and 1 knowledge assessment:

Processes available: MIG, MMA, TIG and GAS welding

Produce a butt weld in the PA flat position

Produce a multiple-run tee fillet in the PB horizontal/vertical position

Produce a lap fillet weld in the PF vertical-up position

Produce a tee fillet weld in the PF vertical-up position

Produce a butt weld in the PF vertical-up position

You will be trained to industry standard specifications always looking to achieve a higher level than you are studying This practical qualification will give you the knowledge and skills to move forward towards your goal. Welders are in high demand and the skills you learn are potentially the first steps in a new career or in upskilling your current capabilities

Special Features

This is a short programme were you will produce welded joints to specified criteria.

Each joint will be marked and a judgement made as to whether it meets the required standards

Feedback on how to improve will be both verbal and written.

Materials are either ferrous or non-ferrous

Opportunity to learn about destructive welding techniques to include macro etch, cupping tests, nick break and bend tests Virtual Welding is available to practice welding techniques on MIG and MMA in all positions and to test welds to industry standards

Entry Qualifications

There are no formal entry requirements for candidates undertaking these qualifications. However, you must have the potential and opportunity to successfully gain the qualification.

Progression

The qualifications not only provide progression across a range of welding processes at this level but are also a platform for progression to Level 2 Award in Advanced Welding Skills (3268-03)

£235 (Price Includes Registration fee of £85)
If you are aged between 19-23 and don’t already hold a qualification equivalent to 5 GCSEs at grade C or above, and you need to study at Entry or Level 1 to progress to Level 2, tuition fees will be waived.
