Your Unique Experience

» You will be assigned a Personal Tutor and a Progress Tutor who will specifically look after your pastoral and course requirements

» You will be assessed through a variety of assessment methods including discussions, displays, case studies, presentations, written work and practical assessments whilst on placement

» You will undertake weekly work experience as a Health and Social Care Cadet. This includes the opportunity to undertake NHS placements on a variety of wards at Tameside General Hospital and specialist placements in sector specific areas e.g. mental health and sexual health. All placements are organised and arranged by our specialist Placement Officers.

» You will gain sector specific knowledge and experience from guest speakers and educational visits

» You will get the opportunity to gain the highly valued Dignity in Care Award

Course Content

Throughout the course you will develop a range of skills and knowledge preparing you for progression into employment within the Health and Social Care sector or onto a related Level 3 course within the college.

Throughout the course you will study 10 units in total. These include:

» Effective Communication in Health and Social Care

» Individual Rights in Health and Social Care

» Health and Social Care Values

» Human Lifespan Development

» Healthy Living

» Creative and Therapeutic Activities

Special Features

» Alongside your core Health and Social Care studies you will study either GCSE or Functional Skills in Maths and English (if not already achieved at L2)

» So that you can attend your weekly placement you will undergo and acquire an enhanced DBS check

Entry Qualifications

You are required to have 4 GCSEs at grade D including English and Maths. You will also be required to undertake an interview and will be expected to be enthusiastic about working in the health and social care sector.

Progression

On successful completion of this qualification you can progress onto:

» The L3 Extended Diploma in Health & Social Care (subject to meeting entry requirements)

» Employment within the Health & Social Care sector

» An Apprenticeship
