Introduction to Beauty Therapy Award – Part Time, Adult, Level 1 (City and Guilds) 6 weeks

The course covers the following units:

Introduction into the Hair and Beauty Industry

Hand and Nail treatments

Health and Safety

There are several additional opportunities as part of this introductory course. You have the chance to complete work experience in our academy salons. It is a good introduction into the beauty therapy industry

This course is assessed through a mixture of practical assessments and written tests.

This 6 week (3 hour) introductory course includes both practical and theory lessons. You will develop a basic understanding of the industry.

An Individual Learning Plan (ILP) will be designed with you, to meet your needs. Targets will be set to enable your progress and achievement.

You will be assigned a Personal Tutor who specifically looks after your pastoral and progress requirements throughout the course

You will be trained in the use of specialist, professional products and treatments.

Beauty Therapy offers an exciting and challenging career in a fast paced industry. This short, 6 week part time course is ideal if youre just starting out in hair and beauty and want an understanding of the industry – enough to succeed in a job in the area or to move onto further study. It will give you the knowledge and practical skills to progress to a higher level course in beauty therapy. Alternatively you could progress to an Apprenticeship.

This is a part time, adult evening course

Uniform: learners are expected to wear black, no denim or trainers allowed.

Learners should possess the following qualities:

A genuine interest in the subject

Good communication skills


Enjoy working with people and in a team

Good dexterity skills

Personal commitment

Be reliable & punctual

You could progress to further study in the following;

Level 2 in Beauty Therapy part time.

Working as an assistant within a salon environment

Freelance work


(Unemployed criteria)
If you are in receipt of Job Seekers Allowance or Employment Support Allowance (Work Related Activity Group), tuition fees will be waived.
If you are in receipt of Universal Credit, and are determined by Job Centre Plus as being in one of the following groups:
  • All Work Related Requirements Group
  • Work Preparation Group
  • Work Focused Interview Group

Or if you receive Income Support, Carers Allowance, Council Tax Benefit, Disability Living Allowance, Housing Benefit, Personal Independence Payments or Pension Guarantee Credit.
AND are unemployed with a weekly income of less than 16 times the minimum wage or £330 per month.
AND the course you are studying will help you find employment, your tuition fees will be waived. If you are employed, receiving work tax credit, and have an annual income less than £15,579, then your tuition fees will be waived. This also applies to all courses labelled level 1 or 2F.
