Your Unique Experience

You will be assigned a Personal Tutor and a Progress Tutor who will specifically look after your pastoral and course requirements

You will be assessed through a variety of assessment methods including discussions, displays, case studies, presentations and written work

You will gain sector specific knowledge and experience from guest speakers and educational visits

Course Content

The BTEC L1 Diploma in Health and Social Care course has been designed to provide a broad educational basis for further training, further education or for moving into appropriate employment within the health and social care sectors. This course enables students to reflect on their own learning skills as well as further academic and vocational routes into their chosen profession.

Throughout the course you will study a range of units to make up a minimum of 37 credits. Such as:

If you are interested in making a difference to people’s lives by choosing a rewarding career in Health and Social Care then this is the course for you. Health and Social Care dominates our lives. You could be looking to work with older people, young people; people with learning disabilities or within the NHS, and this qualification could be the first step on that exciting journey. Health and Social Care courses provide broad based learning around the physical, intellectual, emotional and social needs of individuals of all ages preparing you for a variety of career pathways including nursing, midwifery, social work and youth work. This practical and academic qualification will give you the knowledge and skills to move forward towards your goal.

Course Format

This is a full time programme. You will learn through a variety of methods which will aim to meet the needs of each individual and accommodate different learning styles for example, case studies, assessments, group work, practical work, projects and interactive activities.

Special Features

Alongside your core Health and Social Care studies you will study Maths and/or English

You will be expected to undergo and acquire an enhanced DBS check

Entry Qualifications

You are required to have at least 4 GCSEs at grade E, including English and Maths. You will also be required to undertake an interview and will be expected to be enthusiastic about working in the health and social care sector.


On successful completion of this qualification you can progress onto:

The L2 Extended Certificate in Health & Social Care (subject to meeting entry requirements) or an alternative L2 Qualification of your choice (again subject to meeting entry requirements)
