A Level Physics

Your Unique Experience

Working in state of the art science labs, you will experience the magic of Physics through the application of practical experiments. You will be supported by an outstanding teacher who will ensure you excel in a subject you love

Course Content

In year 1 of the course you will study mechanics, materials, waves, electricity and quantum physics. This includes topics such as projectile motion, moments, wave particle duality and electrical circuits.

In year 2 of the course you will move on to study periodic motion, nuclear and thermal physics, fields and an optional unit. The option can be chosen from medical physics, astrophysics, engineering physics, electronics or turning points in physics.

In both years you will undertake experimental investigations where you will develop your practical skills and report writing. Each year has 6 assessed practicals and these will be completed throughout your time at college.

Here at Clarendon we follow the AQA Physics syllabus - for more information on the content of the course please visit the AQA website.

If you chose to study AS Physics at Clarendon you must also study AS Maths as one of your other subjects.

More than just a Course

Physics is the explanation of how the universe works, from the quarks that make up all matter to the evolution of the universe itself. Physics involves studying theories and their application to everyday life as well as experimental investigations.

Entry Qualifications

Specific entry requirements, these are on top of the general entry requirements for A-level (which is 5 A-C GCSEs), - a grade 6 in GCSE Maths and a grade 6 in GCSE Physics (or 2 grade 6s in core and additional science)

Progression

A Level Physics offers a wide range of progression routes to both employment and Higher Education encompassing architecture and engineering to medical physicist and radiographer.
