Fine Art is traditionally known for painting and drawing. This is a course that gives you the opportunity to discover ways of working in these areas but also includes printmaking, 3D and 2D methods, digital media, mixed media and installation art. From suggested staring points and workshop delivery you will be encouraged to develop as a high level thinker and creative interpreter. Underpinning your work will be the development of vital drawing skills and the appreciation of a broad range of other artists work.
This course encourages creativity, sustained investigation and analysis, experimentation, and
design and making as a means of developing technical and expressive skills. It gives learners the opportunity to follow a programme of study which extends experience and personal response as well as developing imagination and critical and reflective thinking. The ability to innovate, adapt and work independently, which underlies all aspects of the course, is valued by higher education and employers alike.
This course encourages you to be an individual, offering you the opportunity to express and explore your creative ideas. You will be introduced to a variety of media and techniques that will broaden and strengthen your knowledge and understanding of a subject that reaches far beyond the classroom walls. You will develop your own practice as an artist and be encouraged to investigate new ideas and processes. This is a course for a student with a flair, passion and enthusiasm for creativity.
5 GCSE’s grade 4 or above (including English and Maths)
A previous art and design GCSE at grade 4 or above or similar and/or a passion and interest in the subject
Successful interview with an art tutor (bring a portfolio of your art and design work)
Good verbal and written communication
Good drawing skills are a bonus
After completing A Level Fine Art students go on to higher education within art and design or a wide range of other subjects. Following on from this student’s enter a range of employment opportunities such as multiple design fields, photography, artist, printmaker, set designer, to name just a few.
