Tameside College is committed to being an inclusive and accessible organisation and to this aim, we develop our websites to meet standards and practices to ensure they are as accessible as possible to all users. Our goal is to provide information that is accessible to the widest possible audience, regardless of technology or ability and we work continuously towards this.

HOW WE MAKE OUR WEBSITES ACCESSIBLE

We make our websites accessible by following best practices and guidelines. We use the WCAG 2.1AA Standard, which helps make websites function correctly when accessed with assistive technology used by people with disabilities. These technologies include screen readers and magnifiers. As well as addressing technical considerations, we also strive to make our copy easy to read by using simple language and formatting, avoiding unnecessary complexity.

HOW WE TEST OUR WEBSITES

As well as consulting the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 when creating new content, we periodically test our website using the online testing tools recommended by gov.uk. Any issues flagged by the online tests are manually checked and corrected if required. We also use offline accessibility testing software including the reports available in Microsoft Visual Studio.

NON-ACCESSIBLE CONTENT

Legacy

Our websites include some legacy content, not all of this content meet WCAG 2.1. This content will expire and be removed over time.

PDFs

Some of our older PDFs do not meet accessibility standards - for example, they may not be fully accessible to a screen reader. This content will removed/replaced over time.

Video

We do not provide transcripts or audio description for our videos, however subtitles are available for our videos using the automated service provided by YouTube.

Contrast

Occasionally we may produce or be provided with artwork where text is placed over images and the contrast may not be as high as we would like. This will be avoided where possible and we will ensure that any information displayed in this manner is also available in an accessible format.
