Olympic Bid for Bakery Students

Tameside College Bakery students impress judges with their high standards at the latest ‘Olympic’ themed California Raisins Young Bakers Competition.

The bi-annual event is aimed at highlighting and rewarding the skills of Bakery students across the UK and challenges the participants to produce a variety of baked goods that follow the chosen theme of the competition.

This year the chosen theme was ‘the Olympics’. The Tameside College team competing, consisted of; Filippo Salvaggio, Georgina Sammons and Rebekah Simpson, who are all currently, studying on a Bakery course.

The competition was fierce on the day and a fantastic range of bakery skills were on display. The Tameside College team put in an excellent performance and was rewarded by receiving two second place trophies.

The second place positions also included the opportunity to participate in a specialist chocolate course at the prestigious Slattery Chocolatier School of Excellence, which will help the students develop their skills even further.

Lorna Jones, Divisional Leader of Food Studies at Tameside College said: “Overall, this was a fantastic event which all of the students really enjoyed as part of their enrichment programme. I would also like to give a special thank you to Bakery Tutor Steven Salt, for his coaching of the team and for preparing the students for the competition”.
