Entry students become editorial team

At Tameside College Dovestones’ students have been hard at work creating and editing the ‘Dovestones Express’ for the past two months. Dovestones Express is a newsletter to show local schools what students do in the department and out on work placements.

Dovestones’ editorial team is made up of entry level literacy and numeracy students, Amran, Ian, Alex, Josh, Harry and Amanda. The group got the chance to work with local writer and journalist, Alison Barton-Simmons to learn how to gather story ideas and how to write a structured story.

The first issue of Dovestones Express features stories and pictures about the Dovestones student council, Maths Week, Meet the team, work placement and awards students have received.

Dovestones Express has been produced for local schools, Dovestones students and families to show what the students have been learning about.

Dovestones is a purpose-built facility with superb equipment and specialist resources to meet the needs of students with a wide range of learning difficulties and/or disabilities. The department is based at Tameside College, Beaufort Road site in Ashton-under-Lyne.
