Bakery students meet Mary Berry

Trainee Bakers and Cake Decorators from Tameside College were thrilled when two food industry experts, Mary Berry and Mich Turner stopped to pose for a picture with them at this year’s Cake International Event at Event City, Manchester.

The College Bakery and Cake Decoration students attended the Cake International event to showcase their work which included cakes they had baked themselves and perfected with their decorative and sugarcraft skills.

The students had the pleasure of meeting professional cake decorators, Mary Berry, a well-known food writer and BBC television presenter and Mich Turner, a pioneer in the world of Creative Cake Decoration and who has also become the ultimate cake authority.

Tameside College offers courses and apprenticeships in Bakery and Cake Decoration which helps develop a career in making cakes such as Cupcakes or even Wedding Cakes.
Students on the course have the passion to design cakes; they learn every aspect of being a cake decorator whilst studying at the College.

Lorna Jones, Curriculum Leader for Food Studies said; “The event was a huge success and really put Tameside on the map. The students were really inspired by meeting Mary and Mich at the event.”
