‘VisionTameside’ gets underway

After receiving planning approval in April this year, work has now commenced on Phase 1 of the ‘VisionTameside’ development. The new Advanced Learning Centre will provide state-of-the-art Sixth Form facilities and Digital and Performing Arts facilities in the centre of Ashton. Phase 1 will also see the development of a new Advanced Technology Centre, located at Tameside College’s Beaufort Road campus. The Centre will provide cutting edge learning facilities to support the growth of advanced engineering in Tameside.

Councillor Kieran Quinn, Executive Leader at Tameside Council said: “This new development is expected to bring further economic prosperity as 3000 students and staff, relocate into Ashton Town Centre over the next 3 years. Everyone at the Council is looking forward to watching the new buildings go up over the next 12 months.”

Architects IBI Taylor Young’s first fly-through images for the new build, which can be seen at www.VisionTameside.com give a glimpse of what the Sixth Form facilities will look like, showcasing the building’s new laboratories and media suite (complete with recording studios, radio and TV studios). “VisionTameside represents the future of education and we are privileged to be a part of it. The way the buildings have been designed will set a new, higher standard for further education providers with Tameside College at the forefront of it.” said Architect, Richard Mallison.

John Lyne, Chair of Governors at Tameside College said: “VisionTameside will deliver a new exciting future for Ashton Town Centre attracting new businesses into Tameside.”

Jenny Worsdale, Deputy Principal of Tameside College finished by saying: “We are very excited that work has now begun on the Camp Street site and we are focussed on achieving our timelines for opening in September 2015. We’re looking forward to seeing the first students enjoy our new facilities next year.”
