Ella boosts career prospects with GCSE success

Ella Glover, a former travel and tourism student at Tameside College, has boosted her career chances after achieving GCSE success.

Ella, who wants to become an airport passenger service agent, has achieved a grade ‘C’ in her maths GCSE.

After two years of support and tuition from her teacher Laura, Ella passed the exam. With her new found success, she has applied for positions at Manchester Airport and now hopes to achieve her career dream.

Many employers and universities require students to have a minimum grade ‘C’ in maths and the subject forms the basis for a huge range of career paths.

For her hard work and dedication to the subject, Ella received an award for ‘best mathematics student’.

Ella, said: “I am so pleased that I achieved a grade ‘C’ after all this time. I wouldn’t have been able to do it without the help of my teacher. Laura believed in me, gave me all the help I needed and made sure that I pushed myself to reach my goal. On the third time I sat the exam, I was only one mark away from a pass so that was a knock to my confidence but she told me to get back up and try again.”

Laura Skermer, maths and functional skills teacher at Tameside College, said: “Ella was a fantastic student and the only thing stopping her from achieving her full potential was GCSE maths. She was determined to achieve her dream though and now that she has passed she has the world at her feet. I’m so pleased for her and wish her all the best in her career.”
