Media makeup students ‘snap’ into action

Hair and media makeup students at Tameside College work with professional photographer to gain an insight into the industry.

Sandi Hodkinson, a photographer with over 30 years’ experience creating fashion and commercial images, visited the college’s Tameside One campus to photograph students work.

Students worked with models from the industry to create hair and makeup looks and gave directions to Sandi on photographing them. Each had to come up with three looks for the photoshoots, including: commercial photography, E-commerce modelling and a creative piece of the students’ own design.

In the industry, media hair and makeup artists regularly work with models, television companies, photographers and magazines to prepare them or their clients for time on screen. Lighting, themes and accessories also have to be taken into account.

Emma Fairfield, hair and beauty teacher at Tameside College, said: “Working with Sandi, who has years of experience to her name, is very valuable. The students are under pressure, working to a deadline and under professional guidance, completing amazing pieces of work. This will help them take their work to the next level. I am very pleased with the results and can’t wait to see the final images.”

The students will now be able to use the photographs captured by Sandi in their portfolios to highlight their work to prospective employers in the future.
