Revival campaign is big hit with students

Tameside College launches ‘Revival’ campaign, aiming to keep students and staff active during the pandemic.

Put in motion by the enrichment team, 90 students and 30 staff members signed up to the programme in the first three weeks to improve their fitness.

Every activity logged on Stava is entrered into the prize draw, with the lucky winners claiming a JD Sports voucher, a home fitness package and a Fitbit on the run up to Christmas. Challenges have included activities such as, high intensity interval training, yoga, running and a workout of the week.

The campaign is a big hit with staff and students, who are all able to support and compete against their colleagues online.

Public Services student, Michael O’Sullivan, said: “Since the Revival Campaign and Strava group has been launched I feel it’s given me the motivation to get out of the house, get miles done on my bike and go further than I’ve gone before. It’s also given me the motivation to do more activities, competing with others to get to the top of the table each week and knowing that it gets acknowledged.”

Gemma Haslam, administrative assistant in the college’s estates team, said: “Being part of Tameside College’s Revival Staff group on Strava has encouraged me to go for a walk on my break, it has also made me try and walk a bit further than normal and beat my previous distance each time I go out.

I think seeing what other staff are doing via the app spurs me on and makes me more competitive.”
