Media makeup student named 2nd in the country

A Tameside College media makeup student has taken 2nd place in a national competition, after displaying his skills.

Dylan Danko, a former St Damian’s RC High School student, was awarded the prize after taking part in the Association of Hairdressing and Therapists (AHT) competition at Norbreck Castle Hotel in Blackpool.

The AHT represents teachers and students in the industry and hosts its prestigious national competition each year to allow students to demonstrate the skills and knowledge learnt during their qualification.

Dylan competed in the ‘create an image’ category in the competition and created a unique carnival piece using makeup, sequins and feathers.

Beth Breheny, another media makeup student, also competed in the competition in the ‘half body paint’ category, receiving a highly recommended certificate for her tiger themed bodyart.

To reach the final, both students took part in the north west regional heats in March, where they impressed competition judges.

Kim Barrow, media makeup teacher at Tameside College, said: “I am honoured to see our learners stepping out of their comfort zone and into the competition scene. Both Dylan and Beth represented not only themselves, but myself and the college remarkably. Their designs were amazing and show off the skills they have learnt during their studies.”

Dylan now plans to continue his studies further and has accepted a place at Buckinghamshire University.
