Graduation celebrates successful students

Tameside College higher education students celebrate their achievements with graduation ceremony.

58 students alongside family, friends and VIP guests gathered at Dukinfield Town Hall on Thursday 26th May for the event.

Graduates were congratulated for their efforts with speeches from Jackie Moores, principal at Tameside College, Dr Lynn Senior, director of the Education and Training Consortium at Huddersfield University and Suraj Rash, former higher education student at the college.

The Civic Mayor of Tameside, Mike Glover and his consort also attended the event and was photographed with graduates.

Jackie Moores, principal, said: “Congratulations to all of our graduands who will accept their awards tonight. It is a fantastic personal achievement. This event is designed to celebrate your success and share the pride we all feel for you. It is always special to have your friends and family with you to make it such a wonderful occasion.

This event marks a milestone in your learning journey and it is a celebration of your dedication, determination and enthusiasm.

The country needs people with higher level skills to make the UK more competitive – especially as we start to recover the economy from the pandemic and by developing a highly skilled workforce, Tameside can attract a range of different employers to invest.

Thank you to everyone - and on your behalf I would like to thank your families and friends for the support they have given you.”

Dr Senior, said: “Congratulate yourselves on having developed the skills, knowledge and sheer stamina to achieve so highly. It’s also not just skills and knowledge as you will have gained valuable transferable skills along the way, skills that will take you into the next chapter of your life journey. In particular resilience, adaptability and perseverance.

Learning, we also know, is usually guided by a knowledgeable other – in this case your lecturers and tutors who have challenged you, opened doors into new knowledge worlds, supported, pushed and, at times, pulled you.

John Schaar reminds us that the future is not some place we are going to, but one that we are creating. The paths are not to be found, but made. So I congratulate you, Graduands on your splendid achievements, and I entreat you to use your achievements wisely and well.””
