New partnership offers unique experience for students

Tameside College students gain experience with leading hotel group, to develop skills for their careers.

Hospitality and catering, travel and bakery students from the college will be completing valuable paid work experience with Leonardo Hotels, as part of a new scheme.

Taking place over five months, students will rotate with hotel staff to gain an insight into different careers with Leonardo Hotels.

Hospitality and catering students will work in back of house roles in the kitchens, laundries and offices whilst travel students will be gaining knowledge of front of house careers, working alongside reception and waiting staff.

The first three students to take part in the project, recently completed two weeks at two of the company’s London locations.

Work experience is a vital part of students’ qualifications, giving them the skills and knowledge to secure job roles once they finish their studies or a place at university.

Debbie Higginbottom, work experience coordinator at Tameside College, said: “This partnership with Leonardo Hotels shows that the college is committed to providing really high quality training for students and helping them to achieve the best in their careers. The first three students to take part have had a great experience and I cannot thank Leonardo enough for their work to help young people into the industry.”

Karlyne Darch, bakery student at Tameside College, who worked with the hotel’s chefs, said: “The work experience has really helped me to become more confident and better at handling tasks on my own. It was fun to discover what the kitchens were like compared to the world of patisserie and bakery.”
