Level 2 Nail Services

The course covers the following units:

Health & safety

Anatomy and physiology

Skin and nail disorders and diseases

Providing manicures

Providing pedicures

Basic nail art

Gel (LED) polish application

Handling acrylic

Applying acrylic tip and overlay

Removing and maintaining acrylic nails safely

Providing suitable aftercare advice

There are many additional opportunities as part of this study programme. You will have the opportunity to represent the college as you enter a range of regional and national competitions, such as Greater Manchester Colleges’ Competitions. During your time on this programme, you will also take part in external study visits, for example to Professional Beauty North, to observe professionals within the industry and take part in bespoke demonstrations on the latest trends and fashions in the industry provided by external trainers from industry

You will also complete 36 hours of work experience in industry as part of your course
The course includes a variety of practical and theory classes alongside commercial salon sessions on live, paying clients. You will take part in trips, visits, seminars and competitions alongside your lessons to ensure you further develop a good understanding of the industry.

Learners are expected to undertake work experience in a salon setting. Gaining part time employment in a salon will greatly enhance your skills and aid employability and progression opportunities.

An Individual Learning Plan (ILP) will be designed with you, to meet your needs. Targets will be set to enable your progress and achievement.

You will be assigned a Personal Tutor who specifically looks after your pastoral and progress requirements throughout the course

Mathematics & English classes are mandatory and a core part of your study programme, if you are aged 16-18 and do not have a Grade C or Grade 4 in mathematics and English

You will be trained in the use of specialist, professional products and treatments.
Potential learners should have a good general education and require 4 x GCSEs grade D (4) or above or level 1 in Beauty Therapy. Learners should also possess the following qualities:

A genuine interest in the subject

Good dexterity skills

Personal commitment

Be reliable & punctual
On successful completion of this qualification you can progress onto:

Level 3 Technical Skills in Nail Technology

Level 2 Beauty Therapy

Level 2 Hair & Media

Working as a junior therapist within a salon environment

Freelance work

Apprenticeship
