This is a work-related qualification which will develop all aspects of manual accounting including: double entry bookkeeping adjustments, financial records and preparing both cost and financial accounts. The course will cover the construction, closure and transfer of account balances, production of final accounts and the VAT system. It also uses spreadsheets in an accounting context and discusses the importance of professional ethics to the accounting world.
There are six units within the Diploma, four of them are assessed by a computer based exam which is set and marked by the AAT. The Professional Ethics and Spreadsheets units are assessed in College by an e-assessment.
On completion of the course you will receive the nationally recognised accounting qualification, AAT Level 3 Diploma in Accounting.
Normally you will be expected to have completed the AAT Level 2 Certificate in Accounting or an equivalent qualification. It is also preferable if you are working in an accounting role. If you haven’t completed the AAT Level 2 but have a minimum of four years’ work experience in book-keeping and accounting, have manual bookkeeping skills and are 21 or over, then you may be able to join this programme direct.
On completion of this qualification you can continue your studies for the Level 4 Diploma in Accounting. The completion of the Level 4 Diploma enables you to study for the examination of the major professional accountancy bodies. The Level 3 Diploma in Accounting is also the entry requirement for many business and accounting related degrees.
