Few industries are as dynamic, fast-moving and changeable as Computing and IT. As we approach the 4th Industrial Revolution, preparation is all – and where better to prepare for this exciting future than in our state of the art ICT suite at Tameside College; THE Centre of Excellence in Computing and IT.
Throughout this full time, 1 year study programme, you will establish a comprehensive digital strategy to equip you with the right skills for Industry 4.0 and future-proof your employment opportunities for an as yet undreamt of workforce in the Global future.
You will engage in a variety of innovative Information Technology and Computing topics which ideal for students who wish to further their studies at higher levels or begin a career in a growth industry which involves jobs such as social media managers, coders and developers plus network engineers.
This is a full time study programme that covers a variety of IT and creative topics at an intermediate level. You will undertake one exam and complete a number of units comprised of coursework projects, each of which cover a multitude of topics. You will be active in your skills development and complete multiple pieces of practical work and group activities.

● Python Programming for Artificial Intelligence
● Game Design & Development
● Web Development using HTML and CSS
● Animation and Graphics
● Cyber Security & Networking
● Social Media
This course is for learners who would like to work in the computing industry and gain an understanding of the principles behind Computing and IT. You will develop skills as a programmer, graphic designer and web developer.
During this course you will attend trips to a variety of industry places to prepare you for work and enhance your studies. Guest speakers will also attend lessons throughout the year to give you that valuable industry perspective. You will also undertake elements of work experience within the IT sector.
The course aims to prepare you for a variety of career pathways including software development, network technician, IT support, database management, and cyber security.
You will also be exposed to a variety of industry experts via trips, placements and guest speakers. Example companies involved have included Auto Trader, Vodaphone, Rental Cars, Booking Go and Manchester Digital.
You are required to have 4 GCSEs at grade 3 or above.
If you have not achieved a Grade 4 in your GCSE maths and/or GCSE English Language, you must continue working towards achieving these GCSE qualifications.
If you have achieved a Level 2 Functional Skills qualification in maths and/or English, you are no longer required to continue to study and work towards achieving your GCSE Grade 4 in maths and/or English.
You will be assessed through a variety of assessment methods including discussions, displays, case studies, presentations, written work and a computer based exam.
All units are ‘paperless’ with assignment submission, marking and feedback all provided through our VLE (virtual learning environment). We use a wide range of assessment methods such as discussions, presentations, written work, video and audio evidence.
There is mandatory work experience embedded into this programme that will be integral to developing the employability skills of each learner.
On successful completion of this qualification you can progress onto:
● Level 3 in IT and Computing (Software Development)
● Apprenticeship in the computing industry at Level 3
● Employment as a junior developer
