Level 2 Early Years (Childcare)

This is a full time study programme which covers a range of early years topics from three main areas: child care and education, babysitting and parenting responsibilities. This 1 year course combines practical skills with academic training to prepare you for further study and/or employment.

Over the 1 year duration of this course, you will cover a variety of topics that link to early years and education.

Some of the topics covered are:

 ●  Support physical care routines for children

 ●  Understanding how to work in partnership

 ●  Supporting children’s play

 ●  Understanding legislation relating to the safeguarding, protection and welfare of children.
This course is for learners who would like to work with babies, children and young people.

Subject teachers have industry experience which is shared with learners. This provides a stimulating learning environment and promotes positive learning. The course will also help develop those all-important employability skills that will help you decide on your career path.

On this 1 year course, you are required to have a disclosure and barring service check (DBS); this allows you to access the work experience that is required to develop your skill set within the early years sector. As part of the course you will be required to attend a mandatory placement, one day a week, working within an early years setting. A dedicated placement assessor will support you while you gain hands-on work based industry skills; this allows you to gain a real life insight into the sector. Alongside the course, you will also attend visits and trips to support and enhance your classroom delivery.
Learners should have 4 GCSEs at grade 3 or above. You will re-sit your English and maths alongside your early years course. (If you do not have a grade 4). You will be interviewed by the subject teachers and should be enthusiastic about working with babies, children and young people.
You will be assessed through a variety of assessment methods including discussions, role plays, case studies, presentations and written work. All work is assessed internally by the subject teachers with the course being graded as pass/fail. Throughout the year, learners will be observed in placement by a qualified assessor. This will be conducted to assure each learner is competent in working within an early years setting.
On successful completion of this qualification you can progress onto:

 ●  Early Years (Childcare), Level 3 (Advanced)

 ●  Apprenticeship

 ●  Employment within the early years sector.
