Level 1 Automotive – Body Repair

This course is aimed at students seeking employment as a body repair technician within the automotive accident repair sector.

This course covers repairing vehicle body panels, fitting new vehicle body panels and also covers the welding and Fabrication of vehicle bodies. The course combines both theory and practical work. Students will also cover additional units in Basic Vehicle Electrics, Removing and Refitting Trim components and Functional Skills. This introductory course runs for 35 weeks from September to June.
●  This course covers fixing crash damaged cars to repairing the smallest dent.

●  You will be working with highly skilled industry trained staff using up-to-date equipment and products E.G. Car-o-liner Jig equipment for Crash damaged vehicle. Welding with the latest MIG braze equipment.

●  You will experience a realistic working environment working on road going cars

●  Specialist industry visits to the Motor Show, Skills Shows, Go-karting and other college enrichment activities.

●  Strong links with local and high profile employers,

●  Previous students have gained employment with local employers e.g.

●  Apprenticeships with Pentagon , Stoneace, and Fix auto

●  Guest speakers from industry professionals on a range of new products from Colourtone, Devilbiss, 3M, Farecla, HB Body and Lechler, Mirka

●  Recognised awarding body The institute of the motor industry

●  You will learn a range of skills from MIG welding metal fabrication use of hand tools and specialist body repair tools within the safe college working environment.

●  Practical task Panels removal, repairs to doors wings bonnets tailgates, trim work, glass removal, bumper repairs plus other units, dent filling , stripping and rebuilding vehicle interiors

●  Mechanical electrical trim ( M.E.T.) work

●  Undertake exclusive and diverse project repair work on classic cars, modern cars incorporating traditional and advanced skill sets.
There are no formal entry requirements for this course, but you should have a keen interest in the field of vehicle accident repairs or vehicle body restoration.

You should be enthusiastic about working in the Automotive Body repair sector and able to participate in work experience.
Throughout the duration of this course, practical and theory aspects of the course are delivered. You will complete one online assessment during the year, to check you’ve learnt the appropriate knowledge. You’ll also be building up a portfolio of evidence of your practical tasks on the Institute of the Motor industry’s online Eportfolio system.- 14 practical units and 14 theory units
Performance is tracked and reviewed by the body tutors at specific points during the term. Satisfactory performance will be required in all aspects of the course for progression to Level 2. Progression is to a Level 2 Intermediate Diploma in Vehicle Body Repair Diploma in Vehicle Paint Refinishing or a Level 2 Apprenticeship in Vehicle Body Repair.
