Health, Social Care and Early Years, Level 1 (Foundation)

This is a full time study programme which covers a range of early years and health and social care topics allowing you to get a real insight into both sectors before choosing your pathway at level 2 if you are undecided on which pathway to take.

Over the 1 year duration of this course, you will cover a variety of topics; this course will give you an introduction to many of these that will develop your awareness of health, social care and children’s and young people’s settings. All units are assessed internally by subject teachers.

Some of the topics covered are:

●  Understand the range of service provision and roles within health and social care and children and young people.

●  Human growth and development.

●  Safeguarding

●  Introduction to healthy lifestyle
This course provides pathways into the sector of health and social care and early years. Subject teachers have industry experience which is shared with learners. This provides a stimulating learning environment and promotes positive learning. This course will also help develop those all-important employability skills that will help you decide on your career path. Alongside the course, you will also attend visits and trips to support and enhance your classroom delivery.
Learners should have 3 GCSEs grade 1 or above. You will re-sit your English and Mathematics alongside your course (if you do not have a grade 4 or above). You will be interviewed for this course and should be enthusiastic about working in the health and social care or early years sector.
You will be assessed through a variety of assessment methods including discussions, displays, case studies, presentations and written work. All work assessed internally by the subject teachers. The course is graded pass/fail.
On successful completion of this qualification you can progress onto:

●  Early Years (Childcare) or Health and Social Care, Level 2 (Intermediate)

●  Traineeship

●  Apprenticeship
