Level 1 Award in Digital Employability (IT Skills for Employment)

Our “IT Skills for Employment” course is an entry learning experience into the digital industry. With its modern, engaging content, this qualifications has been designed to give learners the skills they need to be digital citizens and plug any skills gaps. So if you’re considering how to extend a your own personal development and growth, looking to improve your employability prospects or fill a skills gap, our IT Skills for Employment qualification is the answer.

You will undertake units that will develop your understanding of the following topics:

●  Know the basics of using digital technologies.

●  Use digital technologies to manage files and folder.

●  Use digital technologies to create documents.

●  Use digital technologies to work with data.

●  Use digital technologies to work with graphics
Throughout the course you will use industry standard software such as Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel, as well as Adobe Photoshop.

The course will be based on the top floor of the new Tameside One campus which is situated in Ashton Town Centre, and easily accessible by both bus and train.

An Individual Learning Plan (ILP) will be designed with you, to meet your needs and targets will be set to enable your progress and achievement to be tracked and monitored.

You will also have the opportunity to work in a collaborative environment with your peers mirroring current industry practice.
No formal GCSE qualifications are required to study on this course, however acceptance on the course will be determined through an interview where you will be required to demonstrate your desire to work in the digital industry.
Except for the first on-screen exam based unit, all other units are ‘paperless’ with assignment submission, marking and feedback all provided through our VLE (virtual learning environment). We use a wide range of assessment methods such as discussions, presentations, written work, video and audio evidence.

Your work on the course as a whole will be judged as either “Pass” or “Fail”, and each individual unit is also marked as Pass or Fail.
On completion of this course you will be able to apply for the Level 2 Award for IT Users (Employability Skills for Careers in the Digital Industries) and Level 2 Certificate in Data Analysis (Level 2 in Data Science and Business Intelligence) courses.

Once one of the above courses have been completed you will be able to apply for the following adult courses (subject to other relevant experiences and qualifications):

●  Level 3 Access To Higher Education (Computing)

●  Our in-house HNC/HND in computing.
If you are a Greater Manchester resident, and meet the unemployed criteria, or are employed, including where the low wage flexibility may apply, (or are aged 19-23 and non GM resident) and don’t already hold a qualification equivalent to 5 GCSEs at grade 4 (C) or above, and you need to study at Entry or Level 1 to progress to Level 2, tuition fees will be waived.
