The L2 AAT Bookkeeping qualification course is the starting point of your journey into accounting. Studying the Bookkeeping qualification will help you develop a strong foundation of bookkeeping knowledge and skills needed to work in accountancy and finance.
The qualification is composed of two mandatory units
● Bookkeeping Transaction
● Bookkeeping Controls.
The AAT Foundation Certificate in Bookkeeping is an ideal starting point if you wish to pursue a career in accountancy or finance.
By completing the qualification you will develop practical accountancy skills in the double-entry bookkeeping system and in using associated documents and processes. You will be able to check transactions for accuracy, make entries in appropriate books and ledgers, and calculate sales invoices and credit notes.
You will also cover more complex Foundation level bookkeeping procedures including dealing with VAT, reconciliation and trial balances, and will develop your understanding of the relationship between the various accounting records.
It is good practice for students to work with employers while studying and during the course you will be expected to engage in suitable work experience. There will also be the opportunity to attend masterclasses and participate in lessons delivered by guest speakers working in accounting.
You will be taught by a number of tutors with real life experience in accountancy and a Progress Tutor who will work with you to look after your academic study and pastoral needs.
We would expect you to have achieved a good level of English and Mathematics and so require 4 Grade 3’s or above.
You will be interviewed by the subject teachers and should be enthusiastic about entering the professional world of accountancy.
All units are assessed individually in end-of unit online assessments.
The skills developed by studying this qualification will enable you to seek employment with confidence in jobs such as:
● a clerical assistant
● a trainee bookkeeper
● an accounts clerk
● a finance assistant
● an accounts administrator.
The accountancy and finance knowledge developed in this qualification is also the underpinning knowledge needed for the higher-level skills developed in the L3 AAT Advanced Certificate in Bookkeeping.
