Your course consists of 6 x 15 and 1 x 30 credit module at level 5 over 1 academic year

Year 1

Unit 11: Research Project

Demonstrate the capacity and ability to identify a research theme, to develop research aims, objectives and outcomes, and to present the outcomes of such research in both written and verbal formats.

Unit 12: Organisational Behaviour

This unit will develop your understanding of the influence culture, politics and power have on the behaviour of others in an organisational context. You will be able to apply the principles of organisational behaviour to a variety of business situations.

Unit 16: Operations and Project Management

Understand contemporary operations theory as a function of a modern organisation. Explore key benchmarks and processes which will enable effective critique of an operation function. You will also consider the fundamentals of project management utilising the prescribed, but well established, project life cycle.

Unit 17: Understanding and Leading Change

This unit will develop your understanding to anticipate, plan and deliver organisational change. In addition, you will be able to predetermine appropriate and timely interventions required to maximise the benefits and minimise the risk of organisational change.

Unit 18: Global Business Environment

Understand and explore the wider position some organisations have in the global environment. You will appreciate the complexities of operating in a global environment, and this will enable you to offer greater breadth and depth to an organisation’s current or aspirational global presence.

Unit 35: Developing Individuals, Teams and Organisations

This unit will provide you with the opportunity to appreciate that developing knowledge and skills to achieve high performance is a cross-organisation activity. Recognising that your own professional development is just one route to improving the performance of the teams and organisations in which you work. You will also gain an awareness of the context in which learning takes place and how development needs are linked to learning interventions aimed at supporting an organisation’s strategy.

Unit 41: Brand Management

You will gain a comprehensive overview of brand management - starting with why brands are so important and how they are formed, through to measuring brand value and managing a portfolio of brands over time.

The full time HND in Business is delivered over 1 year.

This course provides a stimulating and challenging programme of study; that will be both engaging and memorable for students. Specialist Business, Management, Accounting and CIPD trained lecturers delivering a variety of learning opportunities throughout the year.
This course will help you develop the breadth and depth of knowledge required in Business and Management in the 21st Century. You will consider the operational, leadership and global issues managers have to deal, along with the tools and techniques they use. The HND Business qualification is achieved in one year after completion of the HNC or equivalent qualifications and can be topped up to obtain a full degree. This course offers a local approach to study, with close personal support available throughout your study. Links to real businesses and local employers make it suitable for those wishing to progress directly to employment or to university.

Individuals that don’t necessarily have any of the qualifications above and are working towards promotion opportunities within the workplace, in a position of supervisor, trainee manager or manager can apply through their knowledge and experience, in this instance a short entry assessment will be expected to be completed.
The HND Business employs a range of assessment methods including lectures, group work, directed tasks, independent research, group tutorials, assignments and coursework. The exact type of assessment employed will vary from module to module.
On successful completion of the HND you will have the option to top up the qualification to a full bachelor’s degree at university, for example:-

BSc (Hons) in Business and Management

BA and BSc (Hons) in Business Studies

BSc (Hons) in International Management.
