Level 2 Painting & Decorating

The course will cover the following topics:

Principles of construction

Health & safety

Erecting and dismantling access equipment and working platforms

Preparation of surfaces for decoration

Application of surface coatings

Application of papers to walls and ceilings

Producing decorative colour effects
Here in the painting and decorating department we pride ourselves on being passionate about our chosen subject. We are industry experienced tutors who are enthusiastic and dedicated to giving you an outstanding learning experience. As a student you will be taught in purpose built bespoke workshops and classrooms designed to simulate all industry working environments. We use the very best of the decorating Industry tooling including Hamilton, Purdy, Mirka and Festool and use the UK’s leading brands of paint and wallpaper.

The practical work you will undertake will prepare you for real life situations, you will complete out of college projects or work experience designed to support the community and allow you to gain valuable experience on site, additionally, we have industry guest speakers and visits to industry trade shows and manufacturers. During theory sessions you will learn the rationale behind the practical and will develop real life painting and decorating related problem solving skills which will enable you to become critical thinkers when on site and dealing with unforeseen issues.

In our department we demonstrate respect and courtesy to all. You will be treated as a young adult and as such your contribution and opinion is listened to.

During the course all learners have to undertake valuable work experience in order to make the transition to the workplace as smooth as possible.
Successful completion of a level 1 Certificate in Painting & Decorating with recommendation from tutor.
At the end of the course each learner is required to successfully complete a practical end assessment to prove their skills and sit an online exam to check for theory knowledge in order to achieve the full qualification.

Important to note: you will only be given one opportunity to re-sit the external exam and the final synoptic assessment.
The successful completion of this Painting and Decorating Level 2 course could lead to;

Level 3 Advanced Technical in Painting & Decorating

An apprenticeship program working either in the domestic, commercial or industrial sector

Site management

Self employment

Clerk of works

Surveyor
