Level 1 Painting & Decorating (Feb)

This programme is the first step to gaining a qualification in Painting and Decorating; Whether you’re looking to learn new skills, update your interior, upcycle your old furniture or pursue a career in the industry this is the course for you.

The course covers the following units:

Health, safety and welfare in construction and associated industry

Prepare common surface types for decoration

Apply basic paint systems by brush and roller

Apply foundation and plain papers

Tameside College has recently invested in a wide range of tooling and bespoke work areas that simulate the work and home environment.

Painting & Decorating is an exciting and challenging career. The course will combine core skills such as communication, organisation, planning as well as practical skills. The course will give you the knowledge and skills to progress into a higher qualification.

●  You will work with the latest industry tooling as used by Painting and Decorating specialists including Hamilton, Purdy, Mirka & Festool.

●  On your course you will learn vital skills which will assist you in Painting and Decorating tasks around your home

Successful interview with one of our Painting & Decorating tutors

A genuine interest in the subject

Good communication skills

A hardworking approach towards the industry
Assessment is ongoing throughout the duration of the course. We will ask you to complete practical assessments which are recorded in a basic work book which includes a brief written task in relation to the construction industry Health & Safety and communication.
Level 1 Diploma Painting & Decorating

Level 2 Painting & Decorating Standard (Apprenticeship)
Tuition fees will be waived if:
(Not in paid employment)
You are unemployed, seeking work and in receipt of a means tested benefit.
Or economically inactive – (GM Residents only). If you are unemployed and seeking work, but are not in receipt of a means tested benefit.

(In paid employment)
You receive a means tested benefit accepted by the college; are working less than 20 hours per week and have an income of £343 per month (individual claims) or £549 per month (household claims).
You earn less than £19,890 annual gross salary
AND the course you are studying will help you find or improve your employment

This also applies to all courses labelled level 1 or 2F.
