Level 3 Award in Component Removal and Replacement in Electric and Hybrid Vehicles (Feb)

This course format is 60% practical and 40% theory delivered in the evening for 3 hours a week over a 5-week period.

The content of this qualification will provide candidates with the knowledge and skills required to work safely on EV and HV whilst carrying out routine maintenance and repair work including high voltage components and systems. This may include vehicles that may have or had damage to their high voltage electrical system.

Course outcomes are –

Students will be able to -

●  Use suitable personal protective equipment throughout all vehicle inspection activities.

●  Demonstrate that they work in a way which minimises the risk of damage to the vehicle and its systems, other people and their property

●  Select suitable sources of technical information to support hybrid vehicle repair activities.

●  Use suitable sources of technical information to support hybrid

●  Select appropriate tools and equipment to carry out hybrid

●  vehicle repairs

●  Demonstrate that equipment has been calibrated to meet manufacturers’ requirements.

●  Use the correct tools and equipment in the correct way

●  Know how to carry out hybrid system repairs

●  Explain the correct procedures required when removing and replacing hybrid system vehicle components

●  Explain how to disconnect high voltage supplies correctly e.g batteries, capacitors

●  Be able to demonstrate hybrid system repairs

●  Demonstrate the correct procedures to disconnect and reconnect a high voltage battery pack

●  Demonstrate the correct procedures to remove and refit a hybrid system component

●  Demonstrate appropriate procedures to confirm repairs

●  Demonstrate the correct methods to reset vehicle systems post-repair eg clear fault codes

●  Be able to record information and make suitable recommendations

●  Complete records accurately, in the format required.

●  Compare inspection and test results with suitable data

●  Make suitable recommendations based upon the results of carrying out the replacement activities.
This course comprises of a combination of theory using our latest digital platforms such as LJ Create and hands-on practical sessions where you will work with highly trained teachers on real electric vehicles and the latest training rigs in our newly designed Hybrid Technology suite. Candidates successfully completing this qualification will acquire significant core knowledge and skills, and the ability to remove and replace EV and HV high voltage components.
The course is aimed at skilled technicians who have an interest in gaining the technical knowledge and practical skills to work safely when carrying out routine maintenance work on Electric and Hybrid vehicles. This course is for Motor Vehicle Maintenance, Mechanical Electrical Trim or Accident Repair Technicians who may encounter Electric/Hybrid vehicles within a routine working situation. The Level 3 qualification can only be completed following attainment of the Level 2 award (DF0223MQ/1).
The unit assessments are made up of two components:

●  Practical tasks (set by City and Guilds)

●  Written Assignment (set by City and Guilds).

On successful completion of this course, candidates will be awarded City and Guilds certification.
Upon successful completion of this course successful candidates can progress into employment working confidently on the high voltage side of Electric and Hybrid Vehicles.
