Introduction to Level 1 in Hairdressing Award (Jan)

This is a 10-week introductory course to hairdressing, which covers a range of plaiting, twisting, blow-drying and styling techniques. You will learn how to control and style hair into a range of different looks as well as develop basic skills that will prepare you for further hairdressing training. The units are assessed internally by subject specialist teachers. Units consist of practical workshops and assessments which are carried out in our new, commercial salon.
Styling hair offers an exciting and challenging start to a career in the industry, allowing you the flexibility to develop your own unique business as well as future employment.

This course includes practical workshops and some home study to develop the skills you learn in class.
There are no entrance grades for this qualification, though learners should possess the following qualities:

●  A genuine interest in the subject

●  Personal commitment

●  Be reliable & punctual

●  Good communication skills

●  Stamina

●  Enjoy working with people and as a team

●  Good dexterity skills
You will be assessed by practical assessments and knowledge tests and assignment work.
On successful completion of this qualification you can progress onto:

· Level 1 Hairdressing, part time.

· Cut mens hair using basic techniques.

· Freelance work
Tuition fees will be waived if:
(Not in paid employment)
You are unemployed, seeking work and in receipt of a means tested benefit.
Or economically inactive – (GM Residents only). If you are unemployed and seeking work, but are not in receipt of a means tested benefit.

(In paid employment)
You receive a means tested benefit accepted by the college; are working less than 20 hours per week and have an income of £343 per month (individual claims) or £549 per month (household claims).
You earn less than £19,890 annual gross salary
AND the course you are studying will help you find or improve your employment

This also applies to all courses labelled level 1 or 2F.
