Level 2 Sport

This course is for learners who want to start a career in sport and physical activity. It is an ideal qualification for learners intending to progress directly to employment in sport and activity leadership, progress onto Level 3 Sport or go on to an apprenticeship.

Modules you will complete include: Leading Sport Safely & Effectively, working in Sport & Activity leadership, Leading Sport & Physical Activity, Coaching Sport, Developing Skills for Sport & Activity Leadership, Leading Different Groups, Delivering a Sports Event. You will have access to new technology to assist in the development of coaching performers in a variety of sports.

In this full-time study programme, you will learn through hands-on practical scenarios in the real world of sport and exercise. You will be encouraged to gain coaching experience across a range of sports and undertake compulsory voluntary work experience within the Sport sector. You will wear a college Sports kit for all lessons and assessments.

If you choose to be part of our Football Academy you will complete this study programme in addition to training and match days with Stalybridge Celtic FC. You will have an Academy Football Training Kit, wear this kit for College and commit to both your football development and academic studies. As part of the Football Academy you will have the opportunity to be coached and trained at excellent facilities by the coaches and manager of Stalybridge Celtic FC.
You will gain the vital industry knowledge required by potential employers and have the opportunity to apply your learning to real-life situations working with local partners. You will develop a range of technical skills and attributes which will support a career in sport and active leisure as well as develop academic and study skills that will support progression. In addition, you will have access to technology such as GoPro cameras, iPads and Apps that assist in leading sport; supporting coaches and developing performance.
You are required to have 4 GCSEs at grade 9-3 (A* - D) including Maths or English and will also be required to undertake an interview and assessment. Students will be expected to be enthusiastic about embarking on a career in the sports sector and are required to complete a DBS check at the start of the academic year.
You will be assessed through a variety of assessment methods including discussions, displays, case studies, presentations, extended written work and practical assessments whilst in class, through virtual environments and on work placements. You must be willing to give permission for photographic & video evidence be used and shared with the awarding body. There are also 2 external assessments completed in the form of exams.
On completion of this qualification candidates may progress on to the:

●  Level 3 sport course

●  Employment opportunities within the sector as a Sport or Activity Leader

●  Apprenticeship in Sport & Leisure
