Level 2 Fitness Instructor, part time,adult (includes online learning and weekend practicals) (Sep)
The Level 2 Fitness Instructing has been designed to provide learners with the requisite knowledge, understanding and skills to work unsupervised as a gym-based fitness instructor with apparently healthy adults of all ages. It is ideally suited to:
● Individuals who currently work as a fitness instructor but have no formal fitness qualification
● Individuals seeking a career change who require a recognised qualification
● Exercise and fitness enthusiasts aiming to become fitness instructors.
This course is designed for learners to work remotely on an online portfolio and attend practical session workshops within a 12-week period. Techniques and knowledge will be learnt on each other to check understanding. Teaching is complimented by instruction from industry specialists with relevant sector experience and practicing work-based assessors.
This program is designed to be undertaken through distance learning and attending a number of assessment days within a gym environment.
The structure of the qualification will include an initial welcome day for learners to enrol and go through the college induction process which includes college and industry expectations, use of remote tools (Microsoft Teams).
Course modules such as anatomy & physiology, supporting clients during exercise, health & safety, principles of exercise and planning gym based exercise will be done through distance learning where you as a learner will complete a computer based portfolio. This part of the program is a 10-week process where your assessor will periodically set work in manageable chunks. The college learning hub will be available for those students who are without access to IT or require additional IT support. Distance learning will include support tutorials and workshop sessions for use of the gym if needed.
On completion of this there will be 2 weeks of practical delivery and assessment days where you will demonstrate competency within a gym based environment.
Aged 18+
English grade C/4 or above (or equivalent L2 functional skills)
Experience within a gym based environment
The course will be assessed through the completion of an online portfolio (Microsoft Teams) and a practical assessment at the end of the 12-week course.
Learners successfully completing this qualification will be able to gain entry to the CIMSPA Exercise and Fitness Directory as an Affiliate Member. On completion, learners could progress into employment or self-employment as a Gym Instructor. Further education includes Level 3 Diploma in Personal Training, Level 2 Awards for Instructing Core Group Exercise (Cycling, Kettlebell Training, Circuit Training, Suspension Training) and Level 3 Diploma in Exercise Referral.

If you are aged 19-23, meet the unemployed criteria, or earn less than £20,880 annual gross salary, and already hold a qualification equivalent to 5 GCSEs at grade 4 (C) or above, tuition fees will be waived.
If you are aged 19-23 and don’t meet the unemployed criteria, and already hold a qualification equivalent to 5 GCSEs at grade 4 (C) or above, tuition fees are payable.
If you are aged 19-23 and do not already hold a qualification equivalent to 5 GCSEs at grade 4 (C) or above, full fees are payable.
If you are aged 24+ and meet the unemployed criteria, or earn less than £20,880 annual gross salary, tuition fees will be waived.
If you are aged 24+ and don’t meet the unemployed criteria, or you earn more than £20,880 annual gross salary, tuition fees are payable.
